Hoe Telemak (nu 2 Stream) betrokken raakte bij een van de zwaarste livestreams ter wereld

In 2006, lang voordat livestreaming mainstream werd, werd Telemak (nu 2stream.live ) gekozen om geschiedenis te schrijven – met een project dat zo ambitieus was dat de meesten dachten dat het niet haalbaar was. De aanleiding?

In 2006, lang voordat livestreaming mainstream werd, werd Telemak (nu 2stream.live ) gekozen om geschiedenis te schrijven – met een project dat zo ambitieus was dat de meesten dachten dat het niet haalbaar was.

De aanleiding? De wereldwijde lancering van Jean Paul Gaultiers nieuwe geur, Gaultier² – een evenement dat kunst, cultuur en technologie in realtime combineert , op elk continent.

Het concept: een artistieke botsing tussen Oost en West

De productie, geregisseerd door David Mileikowsky voor Milly Films , bracht twee artistieke grootheden samen:

  • De legendarische Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou voerde live vanuit Beijing kalligrafie en gedichten uit
  • De wereldberoemde violist Maxim Vengerov trad live op in Wiesbaden, Duitsland

Elke locatie was uitgerust met drie camera 's die live video in beide richtingen streamden. Een technisch team in Zaventem, België, monteerde de zes feeds in realtime en zond het eindresultaat live uit naar 600 VIP-gasten van over de hele wereld .

De Chinese factor: een groot technisch obstakel

Het uitzenden van een livestream vanuit China in 2006 was als koorddansen zonder vangnet. Er waren geen lokale partners , geen toegankelijke productie-infrastructuur en geen garantie dat het internet uitgaande videoverkeer zou toelaten.

Het was bijna onmogelijk om apparatuur in Beijing te vinden. Van encoders tot schakelaars tot eenvoudige signaalomvormers, alles moest worden verzonden, vaak blindelings, zonder een back-upoplossing ter plaatse.

De grootste uitdaging? Een stabiele, snelle live videostream vanuit China krijgen . We zonden niet alleen het signaal uit, we verlegden de grenzen.

Christophe Lenaerts: Rust in chaos

De spil in deze evenwichtsoefening was Christophe Lenaerts , die de technische kant van de productie leidde. Zonder ruimte te laten voor fouten, ontwierp en bouwde Christophe destijds een van de meest complexe livestreaminfrastructuren ooit.

Niets mislukte. Niets viel. De stream werd perfect uitgevoerd – een verbluffende prestatie gezien de omstandigheden.

Apple heeft er nota van genomen

Apple was zo onder de indruk van de technische prestatie en de rol die de technologie speelde, dat het de volledige productie als on-demandvideo op zijn homepage presenteerde . De video werd miljoenen keren per dag bekeken en werd een casestudy van hoe livestreaming kan worden gebruikt om een wereldwijde merkcampagne te lanceren.

Van Telemak naar 2stream.live

Dit evenement draaide niet alleen om parfum. Het ging erom te laten zien dat livestreaming artistiek , wereldwijd en feilloos kan zijn , zelfs onder de meest uitdagende omstandigheden.

Telemak maakte dit mogelijk. Vandaag de dag is datzelfde baanbrekende DNA de drijvende kracht achter 2stream.live , en we blijven de lat steeds hoger leggen.
